Don’t worry I’m not going all educational on you. I’m talking about kids shows so good that you’d watch them without the kids.

So when they’ve bored you to tears with the likes of; Peppa Pig, Tellytubbies, Postman Pat and Paw Patrol you should try to wean them onto this list of Daddy Poppins favourite kids shows (for adults). These cartoons will keep both parents and kids interested (with plenty of adult humour that will fly over their heads and give you a good chuckle). I’ve picked these shows from whats currently available on TV before you guys start screaming about your childhood favourite. So without further adieu, let’s list these bad boys.

Gravity Falls:

Daddy P’s Top Tip: Get your kids hooked (and now). It’s great. Scoring an excellent 8.9 out of 10 on IMDB It regularly makes me spit out my food and shoot liquid out my nose. Mabel and Dipper spend their summer in the strange town of Gravity Falls with their ‘Grunkle Stan’, who runs a tourist trap called the ‘Mystery Shack’. In the clip I’ve chosen, Dipper has released ‘Rumble McSkirmish’ (the ultimate fighter) from an arcade game and convinced him that a bully he’s due to fight has killed his parents. But what happens when Rumble finds out he’s been conned…

Regular show:

Mordecai and Rigby are the stars here. They work as groundskeepers in a park but get into all kinds of incredible adventures. Scoring an excellent 8.4 out of 10 on IMDB. Other notable characters include; Muscleman and High Five Ghost. In the clip I’ve chosen to suck you in; Mordecai is trying to impress his girlfriend’s dad and it all skyrockets out of control pretty quickly (in typical Regular show style).

Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated:

I grew up watching Scooby Doo, I loved it. it was one of my favourite shows as a kid. But it has dated and dated badly. Did you know that the first Scooby-Doo aired in 1969, it is nearly 50 years old!! So me and the little fella sat down to watch Scooby’s latest offering. Daddy P’s opinion, one simple word: Brilliant. It’s full of ‘in-jokes’ for those who grew up watching the original series. Velma’s sassiness, Sheriff Bronson’s droll attitude and Fred’s traps fetish and ignorance towards Daphne’s feelings are the high points for me.

the Amazing World of Gumball:

I love this show, I’m not sure there’s a single clip I could put here that stands out above the rest (but only because, its all top notch). OK, if you could find a decent copy of it I’d go straight for an episode called ‘The console’. It features some crazy animation; incorporating; stop-motion mixed with video and standard animation. The storyline follows Gumball and his trials and tribulations. His Dad is the standout character for me. Again, there are loads of adult jokes and enough to keep the kids happy too (seeing as you’re pretending they’re the ones watching) It scored 8.1 out of 10 on IMDB In the clip

Worth it for Bagga T alone. This show follows crime-busting mouse reggae band Da Easy Crew (lead by the excellent Rastamouse), who split their time between making music and solving mysteries for President Wensleydale in Mousetigo Bay. Scoring a very high 8.0 out of 10 in IMDB My clip for this is of course… Bagga T #Legend

Phineas and Ferb:

This is the story of 2 brothers who come up with amazing contraptions and go on amazing adventures every day of the summer holidays, much to the annoyance of their older sister who tries to get them in trouble with their mam (there also a subplot about their crime-fighting pet platypus). It’s the songs though. The songs really make it. From the intro song which explains everything better than I ever could to the original songs in most episodes. It scores an excellent 8.0 out of 10 on IMDB I’ve plumped for ‘There’s a platypus controlling me’ as the song/video choice. Check it out below.

Honorable mentions

  • The Simpsons: omitted because this should be part of your kids and your staple TV diet. If TV viewing was the food pyramid this would be one of your 5 a day
  • Spongebob Squarepants: Although it can be excellent it makes kids hyper. As a stay at home dad, I cannot recommend anything that winds them up more than they all ready are.

Is there anything else I should have in here? What kids TV do you think adults should be watching?
